HCMC – Among 53 fresh Covid-19 locally-infected cases being confirmed by the Ministry of Health this afternoon, May 27, 30 cases were reported in Bac Ninh Province and 21 cases were in Bac Giang Province. These two northern provinces remain the biggest hotspots in the current fourth coronavirus wave, which started on April 27.
The two remaining cases were recorded in Hai Duong and Dien Bien provinces, the ministry added.
The latest 53 infections brought Vietnam’s total number of domestic cases in the latest wave to 3,105 in 30 provinces and cities.
In related news, between May 7 and 26, the northern mountainous province of Dien Bien reported 56 virus infections in Muong Lay Town, Dien Bien Phu City, Dien Bien and Nam Po districts. The provincial Department of Transport recently decided to suspend all interprovincial passenger transport services, including those linking to the Covid-19-hit Hanoi, starting today until further notice.
The department said that vehicles serving the Covid-19 fight or implementing tasks at the request of authorities are allowed to maintain operations.
Further, the Ministry of Health today formed a Covid-19 taskforce in Bac Ninh Province, with Deputy Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen serving as leader. Tuyen was given authority to mobilize human resources, vehicles, medical equipment under the ministry to serve the anti-virus effort in the province.
The taskforce consists of experts in the fields of information and technology; quarantine, environmental sanitation at industrial zones; inspecting and monitoring epidemic and handling the environment in the community; medical treatment.
Also, a team led by Nguyen Trung Cap, deputy director of the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases, takes charge of providing medical treatment for coronavirus patients in Bac Ninh.
Earlier, the ministry had set up a similar taskforce led by Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Truong Son in Bac Giang Province.
