Downpour inundates streets in Dalat

The Saigon Times

Must read

HCMC – A one-hour-long downpour on September 1 flooded many streets and areas in Dalat City, causing chaos, the local media reported.

The rain began in the hilly city and the neighboring district of Lac Duong at around 3 p.m. on September 1. Rain water from the high hills poured down, while the drainage systems were overloaded.

Meanwhile, trash from other areas was swept into the waterways, causing blockages in many streams and sewer systems.

Water overflowed into roads and houses, severely impeding traffic and damaging goods and electronic equipment. Many motorbikes were stalled in the water and their owners were forced to look for repair shops.

Reportedly, many streets and areas in Dalat City were flooded by 40-50 centimeters or nearly one meter, including the Cach Mang Thang Tam, Phan Dinh Phung, Trang Trinh, Truong Van Hoan, Ngo Van So, and To Ngoc Van Streets.

The downpour also flooded and damaged many fields and vegetable gardens in Lac Duong District and Dalat City.

Water began to recede after 5 p.m. and life returned to normal.

In recent years, the drainage systems in Dalat have been severely affected by fast urbanization. Therefore, heavy rains could lead to flooding in many areas, affecting tourism.

Dalat is expected to welcome tens of thousands of tourists during the September 1-4 National Day holiday.
