HCMC – Several pharmaceutical firms in India have committed to supplying some one million doses of Remdesivir, a Covid-19 antiviral, to Vietnam within the next 30 days.
Apart from the importance of Covid-19 vaccination in suppressing the pandemic, antivirals also play a key role to treat ill patients, contributing to fighting off the disease quickly and effectively, according to the Vietnam Trade Office in India.
Due to efforts in accessing the Covid-19 antivirals from a Covid-19 vaccine and antiviral rapid-response team established in India by Pham Sanh Chau, Vietnamese Ambassador to India, several Indian drugmakers such as Hetero, Dr. Reddy, Cipla, Jubilant, Mylan, Zydus and Cadila agreed to provide Vietnam with the doses of Remdesivir.
At recent working sessions with Vietnam and India, the Indian side said that the country would consider creating the most favorable conditions for Indian firms to complete export procedures, the local media reported.
As the pandemic hit India in late April and early May, the Indian government issued a ban on drug exports. The ban has been converted into a restriction since June 14, according to the Vietnam Trade Office in India.
To be allowed to export pharmaceutical products, Indian firms must complete procedures at the Directorate General of Foreign Trade of India or offices at major economic centers, said the Vietnam Trade Office in India.
