HCMC – Vietnam and Indonesia are aiming for bilateral trade of US$15 billion by 2028, it was announced at a meeting between Vietnamese State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his Indonesian counterpart Joko Widodo on December 22, as part of Phuc’s ongoing three-day visit to Indonesia.
State President Phuc said the two-way trade reached US$11.5 billion in 2021 and might hit US$13 billion this year.
To beef up the bilateral trade to US$15 billion or higher by 2028, Indonesian President Joko proposed Vietnam create more favorable conditions for Indonesia’s exports, mainly farm produce, to the country.
Besides, the high-ranking leaders of the two countries reached a consensus to boost investment and partnership, the local media reported.
The two countries will also promote tourism cooperation, encouraging air carriers to open new air services between Danang and Java, and HCMC and Jakarta, said Indonesian President Joko.
Indonesia has been investing in 101 projects worth US$611.7 million in Vietnam, said President Joko, highly valuing Vietnam’s trust in Indonesian investors in multiple sectors.
The State President’s visit to Indonesia ahead of the 10-year anniversary of the Vietnam-Indonesia strategic partnership (2013-2023) will help deepen bilateral ties, the Indonesian president told the meeting.
President Joko affirmed that Vietnam is one of Indonesia’s key partners in the region, while President Phuc also stressed that Vietnam always attaches great importance to its partnership with Indonesia, expecting the two countries to support and strive to become developed nations in 2045.
