HCMC – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs received 2.6 million more doses of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine donated by the German Government on September 27.

This is the second delivery of the Covid vaccine from Germany to Vietnam over the past two weeks, following a batch of over 850,000 AstraZeneca vaccine doses via the Covax Facility that arrived in Hanoi on September 16, raising the total number of Covid vaccine doses gifted by Germany to Vietnam to 3.45 million.

Speaking at a ceremony to receive the vaccine donation, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs To Anh Dung thanked the German Government for the vaccine doses and medical supplies to help the country bring the pandemic under control as it wrestles with the highly contagious Delta variant.

Germany will always stand with Vietnam in the fight against the pandemic, German Ambassador to Vietnam Guido Hildner said, hoping that the Vietnamese Government’s determination and anti-pandemic measures will soon keep the pandemic in check so that bilateral trade activities can resume.

The batch of 2.6 million Covid vaccine doses arrived at the Tan Son Nhat International Airport in HCMC on September 26. To date, the German Government’s assistance of vaccines and medical supplies has been the largest aid from a European Union member to Vietnam, the local media reported.
