Vietnam’s daily Covid caseload falls to below 7,000

HCMC – The Ministry of Health confirmed 6,957 new Covid-19 cases this evening, October 1, down by 996 cases against yesterday.

The new infections included 16 imported cases and 6,941 local transmissions in 37 cities and provinces. HCMC recorded the biggest number of new infections with 3,670 cases, followed by Binh Duong with 1,787, Dong Nai 735, An Giang 116 and Long An 107, all in the South.

Other cities and provinces detected less than 100 new cases each.

The country has recorded 797,712 Covid-19 cases since the pandemic broke out early last year, including 793,149 domestic cases in the fourth wave of the pandemic, which began in late April 2021.

This afternoon, the Ministry of Health also confirmed 136 more Covid-19 deaths, taking the total to 19,437. The new deaths included 96 in HCMC, 19 in Binh Duong, five each in Long An and Dong Nai and three in Can Tho. Six other localities reported one or two new fatalities each.

Up to now, more than 636,081 Covid-19 patients in the country have made a full recovery, including 27,250 people today. Meanwhile, there are currently over 6,100 Covid-19 patients in critical condition.

With the number of new infections falling significantly in recent days, HCMC has resumed several essential services and eased social distancing measures from this morning. The municipal government this afternoon issued Directive No. 18 on gradually reopening the economy.

The management board of the Covid-19 infection prevention and control fund of HCMC and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in HCMC today received more aid from businesses for the fight against the pandemic.

The donation comprised US$50,000 from the China Business Association’s HCMC Branch and medical equipment worth nearly VND5 billion (US$220,000) in total from Duong Nhat Investment Construction and Environmental Technology Company.

Since the beginning of this year until the end of September, the two organizations have received over VND958 billion in aid for the Covid-19 fight and another VND311 billion for vaccine purchase, in addition to food and necessities worth a total of VND364 billion.

Since early August, they have provided more than 2.23 million social lifeline bags to people affected by Covid-19 across the city.
