HCMC – During the five-day holiday from April 27 to May 1, the country saw a total of 347 traffic accidents, with 138 reported dead and 285 injured, according to a report from the National Traffic Safety Committee.
The report indicated that road accidents accounted for 346 incidents, with 137 deaths and 285 injuries, while one waterway accident resulted in one fatality.
Traffic police took action against 77,431 violations of traffic safety regulations, imposing fines totaling over VND170 billion. They also seized 1,163 cars, 28,015 motorbikes and 561 other vehicles, and revoked 14,987 driver’s licenses.
Among the violations, 21,369 cases were related to drink driving, 21,088 to speeding, and 87 cases under the influence of illicit drugs.
The National Traffic Safety Committee noted that on the first two days of the holiday (April 27 and 28) and the last day (May 1), major roads leading to the gateways of the country’s two largest cities, Hanoi and HCMC, experienced severe traffic congestion due to increased travel demand from residents.
