HCMC – According to Circular 58 on the issuance and revocation of vehicle registration, which is set to take effect from August 1, the number plates of taxis will have to be changed from white to yellow between August 1 and December 31, 2021, while the letters and numbers will remain black.
Deeming the change as needless, tech taxi drivers said it will take them much time and money to change the color of the number plates.
Taxi service operators have been slapped with multiple conditions in the past as well, stated Nguyen Duc Giang, a tech taxi driver in HCMC.
In April, transport service operators were asked to affix a “Contract Vehicle” reflective logo on the front and rear windshields of their vehicles, while taxi cabs needed to have a light box installed to distinguish them from family-run autos, he noted, adding that changing the color of the number plates was unnecessary.
Pham Viet Cong, head of the division for vehicle registration guidance under the Traffic Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security, said the change would help the competent forces differentiate between vehicles used for transport services and private cars and easily bring them under control, especially during rush hours.
