Dozen of earthquakes shake Kon Tum in May

HCMC – Of the 18 earthquakes recorded in May this year, 12 occurred in Kon Plong District in the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum.

Statistics from the Institute of Geophysics showed that there were 18 quakes across the country with magnitudes ranging from 2.4 to 4.0 in May.

Among them, 12 hit Kon Plong, Kon Tum, which has been prone to earthquakes over the past three years. The rest occurred in Ninh Binh, Dien Bien, Yen Bai and Quang Ngai provinces.

May has also seen the highest number of earthquakes in multiple provinces since early this year. Of them, May 9 saw the most earthquakes this month, with five quakes in the provinces of Kon Tum, Yen Bai, and Phu Yen.

In the first four months of the year, over 100 earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from 2.5 to 4.1, occurred nationwide. Most of these earthquakes were seen in Kon Tum.

A magnitude 4 earthquake struck My Duc District of Hanoi on March 25. Aftershocks caused tremors in many areas both within and outside the city, causing concern among residents.
