HCMC – The National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control has issued a directive to the provinces and cities in the northern and north-central regions, addressing measures to cope with the risks of flooding and landslides.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from the evening of June 24 to June 26, northern Vietnam will experience moderate to heavy rain, with some areas receiving heavy rainfall. The expected rainfall ranges from 50mm to 120mm, with some locations exceeding 200mm.
The north-central region will see rainfall ranging from 30-70mm, with some areas exceeding 150mm.
Mountainous areas are at risk of flash floods, landslides, and flooding in low-lying areas.
Recent heavy rainfall has already caused damage in several parts of Vietnam. On June 23, a landslide at the Bai Vot-Ham Nghi section of the North-South Expressway project in the north-central province of Ha Tinh, resulted in one worker dead and another injured.
On the morning of June 24, heavy rain caused flooding in several areas of Hanoi, leading to traffic congestion on the streets of Phan Boi Chau, Ly Thuong Kiet, Thuy Khue, and Hoang Quoc Viet.
