HCMC – Vietnam’s State President To Lam left Hanoi this morning, July 11, for Laos and Cambodia, marking his first foreign tour since he took office on May 22, said local media reports.

President To Lam’s State visits to Laos and Cambodia, scheduled between July 11 and 13, are made at the invitations of General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith, and Cambodia’s King Norodom Sihamoni.

President Lam is accompanied by President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Do Van Chien, Minister of National Defence Phan Van Giang, President of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics Nguyen Xuan Thang, Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Thanh, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, Minister of Public Security Luong Tam Quang, and many high-ranking officials.

President To Lam is expected to engage in discussions, meetings, and exchanges with high-level leaders of Laos and Cambodia. This occasion provides an opportunity for them to review existing high-level agreements and important areas of cooperation, and outline directions for future cooperation.

Speaking with the media yesterday, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Do Hung Viet emphasized the profound significance of President To Lam’s inaugural foreign visit as it shows Vietnam attaches importance to ties with Laos and Cambodia.

The visits will mark a new stage of development in Vietnam-Laos and Vietnam-Cambodia relations, while also creating new momentum for deeper, more comprehensive, and stronger relations between Vietnam and the two neighboring countries.
