CAAV proposes easing air travel requirements

HCMC – The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has suggested that air passengers departing from low-, moderate- and high-risk areas need to meet one of three requirements: being fully vaccinated, recovery from Covid and negative test result within 72 hours before departure.

As for passengers who already got two vaccine shots, the second shot must have been administered at least 14 days but no more than 12 months before departure, the local media reported.

Thus, air passengers who were fully inoculated or recovered from the disease should not be required to produce a negative Covid test result when boarding. Earlier, the Ministry of Transport required that fully vaccinated people and those who recovered from Covid must test negative for Covid to be allowed to fly.

Meanwhile, those coming from extremely-high-risk areas, in addition to the current regulations, must show negative test results conducted within 72 hours before departure.

The authority on October 17 reported the results of the resumption of domestic air routes, stating that the number of flights operated remained low, at 49%, as many flights had fewer-than-expected passengers.

The demand for some flights is low, such as those between Thanh Hoa and Lam Dong and from HCMC to Ca Mau and Kien Giang. Meanwhile, air routes from/to Hanoi, Haiphong, Quang Ninh, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An remain limited and have failed to meet the demands of passengers.

The vaccination rates in many provinces remain low, so many people who want to fly cannot do so, especially families with children aged 18 and younger.
