Over VND9 billion allocated to Phong Chau Bridge recovery

By Gia Nghi

Must read

HCMC – The Directorate for Roads of Vietnam has approved a budget of over VND9 billion to recover the collapsed section of the Phong Chau Bridge in Phu Tho Province.

The money will cover the removal of the sunken bridge structure and related vehicles. The Phu Tho Department of Transport will oversee the project, including contractor selection and ensuring the quality and timely completion of the recovery process.

The recovery operations will be carried out in two phases. The first phase involves clearing debris covered by sand using water jets and suction machines. In the second phase, large cranes and salvage ships will lift the concrete sections, which will be broken down to ensure river safety and prepare for the construction of a new bridge.

The removal of the T7 pillar, which poses additional challenges due to its complex structure and location, is yet to have a specific plan announced.

The Phong Chau Bridge collapsed into the Red River on September 9 following typhoon Yagi, causing significant disruption. Authorities have since recovered three bodies from the scene.

Local residents now face a longer travel time, having to take detours to reach areas like Viet Tri City, Lam Thao District, and Phu Tho Town.

Phu Tho authorities have proposed a new bridge project, with a total investment of VND865 billion, funded entirely by the central Government, to restore traffic and improve disaster resilience.
