HCMC – The Ministry of Transport has approved the construction of 36 rest areas along the eastern North-South Expressway, from Lang Son Province in the north to Ca Mau Province in the south, with all rest areas expected to be completed by 2025.
Currently, six rest areas are operational, one is nearing completion, and two are in the investment phase. Additionally, one rest area under local authority management will be developed alongside the completion of the Huu Nghi-Chi Lang Expressway. Two other areas managed by the Vietnam Road Investment and Development Corporation (VEC) are undergoing investment procedures.
Of the 24 rest areas included in the Eastern North-South Expressway project, eight have seen the contractor selection process being completed.
For the remaining rest areas, the Ministry of Transport is pushing for faster completion of bidding documents and investor selection, with a goal to finalize the process by the end of this year to ensure the project is on schedule.
To meet the immediate needs of travellers, the Ministry of Transport has also instructed localities to establish eight temporary rest areas along the expressway while awaiting the completion of the official facilities.
