HCMC – The Standing Committee of the National Assembly has approved a reduction in environmental tax rates on fuel and lubricants for 2025 to mitigate inflationary pressures and support economic stability.
The decision, passed unanimously during a December 24 meeting chaired by NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man, sets tax levels below the ceiling rates established for 2025.
Under Resolution 42/2023, gasoline will be taxed at VND2,000 per liter, jet fuel, diesel, fuel oil, and lubricants at VND1,000 per liter, kerosene at VND600 per liter, and grease at VND1,000 per kilogram throughout 2025.
From 2026, tax rates will revert to those outlined in Resolution 579/2018, which sets higher rates: gasoline (excluding ethanol) at VND4,000 per liter, jet fuel at VND3,000 per liter, diesel, fuel oil, and lubricants at VND2,000 per liter, kerosene at VND1,000 per liter, and grease at VND2,000 per kilogram.
The Standing Committee emphasized the need for these adjustments to align with the 2025 budget plan approved by the National Assembly. It also urged the Government to enhance forecasting and policy preparation to prevent delays in decision-making.
