HCMC – Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) has taken over the Phu My 2.2 BOT thermal power plant, ensuring its continued operation and an expected annual contribution of 4.6 billion kWh to the national grid.

A handover ceremony was held on February 4 in Hanoi, attended by representatives from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Mekong Energy Company, and EVN.

Located in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, the Phu My 2.2 thermal power plant was Vietnam’s first 100% foreign-invested power generation project, selected through an international competitive bidding process.

With a capacity of 715 MW, the plant has been in commercial operation since February 4, 2005. Having reached the end of its contractual operational period, it has now been transferred to Vietnam, with EVN assuming management and operation.

EVN will continue to operate the plant, ensuring a stable power supply to support energy security and socio-economic development.

This follows the handover of the Phu My 3 BOT power plant on March 1, 2024, which has the same 715 MW capacity and was also transferred to EVN after completing its 20-year operational period.

With the transfer of these plants, EVN aims to stabilize Vietnam’s power system, enhance energy security, and sustain economic growth in the coming years.
