HCMC – The 437th patient is in critical condition and has been put on an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) machine, while the health conditions of more than 10 others have deteriorated, the Ministry of Health said on July 31.
The 437th case, a 61-year-old man, resides in Danang City’s Cam Le District. The patient had been receiving treatment for kidney failure, hypertension, diabetes, atrial fibrillation and gout at Danang Hospital for a long time before it was discovered that he had been exposed to Covid-19 on July 27. Some medical experts and top doctors are supporting the hospital to treat him.
As of July 30, Vietnam had seen several patients undergoing treatment at Danang-based hospitals, including the 416th, 418th, 428th, 431st, 436th and 438th, who became seriously ill.
Meanwhile, a prognosis for six other cases, the 429th, 426th, 427th, 439th, 422nd and 433rd, who are mainly the elderly and are suffering from other diseases, indicated that their health is worsening, Phap Luat Online reported.
Associate Professor Dr Luong Ngoc Khue, director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment, urged local healthcare centers to mobilize more staff to treat Covid-19 patients, while ensuring the safety of health workers.
Acting Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long on July 30 said the ministry was stepping up action to support Danang City, the country’s largest Covid-19 hotspot, with contact tracing, testing and treatment.
Apart from dispatching top medical experts and doctors, mainly from Bach Mai Hospital in Hanoi City, to the central coastal city to increase the efficiency in treatment, the ministry has also provided 10 ventilators and N95 masks to some hospitals in Danang City and the Hue Central Hospital.
