HCMC — Vietnamese Party General Secretary To Lam arrived in Minsk on May 11 for a two-day state visit to Belarus at the invitation of President Alexander Lukashenko.

This marks the first visit by a Vietnamese Party chief to Belarus in over a decade. To Lam was accompanied by his spouse and a high-level Vietnamese delegation. Upon arrival, he met with representatives of the Belarusian Society for Friendship and Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries, the Belarus-Vietnam Friendship Association, and former Belarusian experts who had supported Vietnam in earlier decades.

Speaking at the meeting, Lam highlighted the longstanding ties between the two countries, established in 1992. He said the bilateral relationship had withstood many challenges and continues to be built on mutual trust and cooperation.

Vietnam and Belarus have expanded cooperation across defense, security, trade, education, science and technology, culture, and local government partnerships. To date, nearly 50 international treaties and agreements have been signed between ministries and agencies of both countries.

Nine Vietnamese provinces have established ties with six of Belarus’s seven administrative regions. The two sides also support each other at multilateral forums.

The visit is expected to further strengthen bilateral relations and outline new areas for cooperation.
