HCMC – Six major expressways will be partially or fully opened to traffic by August 19, according to the Ministry of Construction.
Those projects include the Vung Ang-Bung and Van Ninh-Cam Lo expressway sections, the remaining 13 kilometers of the Van Phong-Nha Trang expressway, sections of the Quang Ngai-Hoai Nhon (10 out of 88 kilometers), Hoai Nhon-Quy Nhon (45 out of 70 kilometers), Quy Nhon-Chi Thanh (20 out of 62 kilometers), and Hoa Lien-Tuy Loan section.
As of now, Vietnam has 2,268 kilometers of expressway in operation. The Ministry of Construction and local authorities are currently working on 25 projects or project components with a total length of 941 kilometers.
Of these, the ministry is the managing authority for 14 projects or components totaling 652 kilometers.
Some expressway projects slated for completion in 2025 are seen falling behind schedule due to unforeseen reasons.
For instance, the early onset of the rainy season in May 2025 has delayed work on HCMC’s Beltway No. 3, potentially impacting the national target of reaching 3,000 kilometers of expressway.
The An Huu-Cao Lanh section in Dong Thap Province, although 64% complete, is also facing delays. With ground settlement expected to continue through the end of 2025, the project is unlikely to be finished this year. Local authorities now plan to complete it by the second quarter of 2026.
