Must read

HCMC – Vietnamese Ambassador to Egypt and Lebanon Tran Thanh Cong has confirmed that a Vietnamese national was injured in the massive explosion in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, on August 4.

There were a few small explosions at around 6 p.m. (local time) in port warehouses near central Beirut before a giant blast killed about 100 people and injured around 4,000, according to international media reports. The powerful explosion also sent seismic shockwaves and shook the ground across the Lebanese capital.

Officials said the death toll would rise further as emergency workers were searching through rubble to rescue survivors and remove the dead.

Lebanese President Michel Aoun said that 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate, used in fertilizers and bombs, had been stored for six years at the port without safety measures.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has sent his condolences to the victims of the explosion.

The United States and some other countries such as Qatar, Jordan, Egypt, Russia and France have said they would help Lebanon, which is already reeling from an economic crisis and a surge in coronavirus infections, overcome the aftermath of the explosion.
