Pham Nhat Vuong acquires nearly 5% stake in LPBank

HCMC – Vietnamese billionaire Pham Nhat Vuong has acquired 146.2 million shares of LPBank (HOSE: LPB), equivalent to a 4.894% stake in the lender.

LPBank said Vuong owns 146.2 million shares, though the value of the transaction was not disclosed. The acquisition was made as a personal financial investment using surplus funds, and he has no intention of entering the banking sector.

The acquisition makes Vuong the largest individual shareholder in LPBank. The bank’s only other shareholder owning more than 1% of its capital is state-owned Vietnam Post Corporation (VNPost), which holds a 6.53% stake.

Following the announcement, LPBank shares hit the daily upper trading limit of VND52,600.

On the southern bourse, the VN-Index rose 11.13 points, or 0.60% against yesterday’s session, to 1,869.04, with 99 gainers and 210 decliners.

Total trading volume reached more than 945.4 million shares, with a value of VND30.99 trillion, up more than 55% in volume and more than double in value. Put-through transactions totaled more than 250.7 million shares worth VND11.94 trillion.

Among blue-chip stocks, VIC extended its rally, climbing 4.2% to VND229,000 and contributing nearly 16 points to the VN-Index.

Another notable performer was Techcombank’s TCB, which briefly hit its daily upper limit before ending the session up 3.7% at VND32,050, with trading volume reaching 28.2 million shares.

On the Hanoi Stock Exchange (HNX), the market closed with 51 advancers and 80 decliners. The HNX-Index gained 5.32 points, or 1.66%, to finish at 326.38. Matched trading volume totaled more than 60.2 million shares, with a value of VND1.13 trillion.
