Heavy downpour expected to hit northern, central Vietnam

Must read

HCMC – The northern and central provinces are likely to experience heavy rain and thundershowers in the next few days, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

A low pressure system that has recently appeared off the coast of the Philippines may enter the East Sea between September 16 and 17, before strengthening into a tropical depression.

By the middle of this week, the impact of the low pressure area and a cold air system in the north will result in heavy downpours across the northern and central provinces, the center said.

As reported by localities affected by bad weather conditions over the past few days, landslides caused by heavy rain and flooding damaged 16 houses, many irrigation and traffic facilities in the northern province of Yen Bai.

In the northern mountainous province of Ha Giang, landslides killed one person and wreaked havoc on properties worth some VND1.3 billion. In Dien Bien, many sections of National Highway No. 279 were buried under the roadside soil due to landslides, especially a section from Dien Bien City to the Tay Trang International Border Gate, leading to traffic congestion on September 14.
