HCMC – A Covid-19 vaccine produced by Nanogen Pharmaceutical Biotechnology JSC is likely to be tested on people this month.
The vaccine is one of the four Covid-19 vaccines produced by Vietnamese firms and will be the first one to be tested on people, Tuoi Tre Online newspaper reported.
At a meeting of the Ministry of Health, experts in vaccine verification and testing and the Vietnam Military Medical University on November 2, Nanogen proposed that the vaccination will first be tested on 60 volunteers.
Earlier, the vaccine had been assessed several times and tested on animals.
At the meeting, a representative of the Ministry of Health said it would support the vaccine producer, including allowing it to do research and conduct the trial of the vaccine on animals and people, but asked the firm to seriously comply with regulations to ensure safety for volunteers.
Among the four locally made Covid-19 vaccines, two will be tested on people at the end of this year and early next year.
According to Nguyen Thanh Long, acting Minister of Health, 187 companies and groups worldwide are developing Covid-19 vaccines, including 38 vaccines, which have been tested on people.
If the trial of Vietnam’s vaccine is carried out this month, the vaccine will become the 39th one to be tested on humans.
Vietnam has registered as a country prioritized to access Covid-19 vaccines when they are launched in the market. The Ministry of Health expected Vietnam could produce Covid-19 vaccines for commercial purposes in the last quarter of next year.
