HCMC – Storm Etau, the 12th storm expected to hit Vietnam this year, is moving fast toward the central provinces from Binh Dinh to Ninh Thuan, with heavy rains forecast in many parts of central Vietnam from November 9 to 12.
At 7.00 p.m. today, the storm eye is likely to be some 230 kilometers east of the area from Binh Dinh to Ninh Thuan, with the strongest wind at level 9, gusting at level 11, the local media reported.
In the next 12 hours, the storm is forecast to move westward at 15-20 kilometers per hour. Etau will skirt the coastal area from Binh Dinh to Ninh Thuan at 7.00 a.m. tomorrow, with gusty winds at level 10.
The storm is expected to make landfall in the provinces from Phu Yen to Ninh Thuan on November 11 before weakening into a tropical depression.
Due to the impact of the storm, coupled with a cold air mass, the provinces from Quang Tri to Khanh Hoa will experience medium to heavy rains until November 12, with rainfall measuring at 200-400 millimeters.
As part of urgent measures to cope with the upcoming storm, Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa provinces have issued a ban on activities at sea. Khanh Hoa Province also asked the relevant units to evacuate locals from dangerous areas to safe places prior to 6.00 p.m.
