HCMC – The air traffic control (ATC) tower at Long Thanh International Airport is one of the key components being accelerated for completion. The structure is expected to be finished before September 30 this year.

Standing at 123 meters, the ATC tower at Long Thanh airport is the tallest structure in Vietnam’s air traffic management system. It features two apron control cabins, each with a floor area of approximately 70 square meters.

In addition, the main control cabin located within the tower body spans about 150 square meters. At the top of the tower, an air traffic surveillance radar will be installed to support the coordination of continuous takeoffs and landings once the airport becomes operational.

The construction team is currently racing against time to install the steel framework for the upper section from the 15th floor onward. On-site, dozens of workers are operating continuously to keep the project on track.

Long Thanh International Airport is among Vietnam’s most important national transport infrastructure projects. It is expected to become the country’s largest international aviation gateway.

Seen from afar, the ATC tower at Long Thanh airport stands as a firm landmark amid the vast construction site
The ATC tower occupies a construction area of about 80 square meters, with the tower body having a diameter of roughly 10 meters
Inside the tower, the two 70-square-meter apron control cabins are arranged to oversee ground operations. There is also a main control cabin within the tower body, covering 150 square meters, which will house the future air traffic control teams.
The tower is designed in the shape of a lotus bud — a symbol of elegance in Vietnamese culture — with a total investment of around VND3.5 trillion. The reinforced concrete structure has been completed, and the tower has now reached nearly 108 meters out of the planned 115 meters in height.
As part of Component Project 2 (Air Traffic Management Facilities) of the Long Thanh airport project, several key auxiliary systems are also underway alongside the control tower. These include primary/secondary radar stations, VHF ground-to-air radio stations, weather radar, a distance measuring and omnidirectional navigation station, a multilateration surveillance system, an automatic weather observation system, a wind shear alert system, and communication networking infrastructure.
After more than a year of construction, the Long Thanh ATC tower is gradually taking shape
At the construction site of Runway No. 2, contractors are mobilizing labor and machinery to lay stone, level the surface, and shape the runway alignment
Meanwhile, Runway No. 1, measuring 4 kilometers in length and 70 meters in width, has been completed. This is part of Package 4.6, valued at over VND7 trillion, which includes taxiways, rapid exit taxiways, aircraft aprons, and ground service vehicle aprons.
The second runway is scheduled to be completed in tandem with the passenger terminal and is set to commence operations in June 2026
