HCMC – HCMC has registered and fully updated 100% of its fishing vessels on Vietnam’s national fisheries database, Vnfishbase, according to the city’s Department of Agriculture and Environment.
The department said the city has completed tasks assigned by the prime minister and the National Steering Committee on combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
Since early 2024, authorities have deregistered 1,665 fishing vessels that were sold to other provinces, converted to other uses, decommissioned, dismantled, or reported missing. The list of deregistered vessels has been made public and synchronized with the vessel monitoring system (VMS) to support identification, inspection, and control at sea.
As of now, 4,299 fishing vessels have been granted or had their fishing licenses renewed, accounting for 96.61% of the total fleet, the department said.
Authorities have identified 402 vessels that do not meet conditions for offshore fishing. These vessels have been placed under direct monitoring by local administrations to ensure they do not engage in fishing activities in violation of regulations.
