HCMC – An Giang Province has approved a plan to build a VND21.86 trillion convention and exhibition center on Phu Quoc Island to serve the 2027 APEC Summit.

The project will cover 16 hectares and include three main facilities. A three-storey convention and exhibition center with one basement will provide 6,500 seats. A multifunctional theater with six floors and one basement will offer about 4,000 seats. The development will also include a 50,720-square-metre park and supporting infrastructure.

Construction is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2025 and be completed in the second quarter of 2027. The project will be carried out under a public-private partnership using a build-transfer contract.

The complex will host meetings, events, exhibitions and performances during the 2027 APEC Summit. After the summit, it will be used for cultural, artistic, sports and entertainment activities, and is expected to support tourism and local economic development.

An Giang has launched several infrastructure projects for the 2027 summit, including the Phu Quoc metro line, estimated at VND9 trillion, the Cua Can water reservoir, Provincial Road 975, a smart monitoring center for Phu Quoc, and an underground utilities project in the Duong Dong area.
