HCMC – The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has issued an urgent directive, calling on provinces from Quang Ninh to Binh Dinh to take necessary precautions ahead of the approaching storm, Tra Mi, which is expected to enter the East Sea in the coming days.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, Tra Mi is forecasted to pass over Luzon Island in the Philippines and enter the East Sea on October 25, becoming the sixth storm of the year.
By the evening of October 24, the eastern region of the northern East Sea is expected to experience strong winds reaching level 8, with winds near the storm’s center hitting levels 9 to 10, and gusts up to level 12. Sea conditions will be rough, with wave heights between three to five meters, accompanied by thunderstorms and dangerous whirlwinds.
The directive urges provinces, cities, and relevant ministries to stay updated with weather forecasts, inform vessels operating at sea to avoid risks, and develop plans to ensure the safety of people and property.
In addition, the ministry advises local authorities to review residential areas near rivers, streams, and low-lying zones prone to flooding, flash floods, and landslides. Proactive evacuation and relocation of residents from high-risk areas to safer locations are recommended.
The ministry also stresses the need for measures to ensure the safety of reservoirs, including small hydropower plants, critical irrigation reservoirs, and construction projects in vulnerable areas.
