HCMC – Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province is seeking to address construction material shortages by extending mining permits, boosting extraction, and exploring new sources like dredged earth.
According to the Ba Ria-Vung Tau Department of Natural Resources and Environment, the province currently has 22 active mining permits with a total tapping capacity of over 100 million cubic meters of stone and rock, 685,000 cubic meters of sand, and 1.1 million cubic meters of other fill materials. This total amount is still lower than the demand of current and future construction projects.
Current projections indicate that the province can extract up to 12 million cubic meters of stone and rock annually, but this is insufficient against the estimated demand of 18 million cubic meters.
The shortage is even more critical for sand, with a supply capacity of only 149,000 cubic meters per year, compared to a demand of over 3.3 million cubic meters. Similarly, the demand for other fill materials exceeds 34 million cubic meters, far surpassing the available supply of 3.3 million cubic meters.
Although the National Assembly has approved special mechanisms to increase material extraction for key national projects, only the Bien Hoa–Vung Tau expressway project in Ba Ria-Vung Tau currently benefits from these provisions.
