Bac Giang continues making up majority of new Covid-19 cases

HCMC – Among the 44 news domestic Covid-19 cases that the Ministry of Health reported this afternoon, May 20, 26 cases were confirmed in the northern province of Bac Giang.

All the cases were detected at quarantine centers and areas under lockdown.

Bac Ninh and Hanoi came next, with six cases each, followed by Dien Bien with four; and Danang and Thai Nguyen with one each.

The patient in Thai Nguyen was the first case of the province in this outbreak. He is a resident of Duong Thanh Commune, Phu Binh District and a worker of Hosiden Vietnam Company in the Quang Chau Industrial Park, one of the biggest Covid-10 hotspots in Bac Giang.

He tested negative for Covid-19 at the company on May 14 and returned to Duong Thanh Commune. After arriving the commune, he made a health declaration. He had his sample taken for Covid-19 testing again on May 18 and the result came back positive the following day.

Duong Thanh Commune has put five hamlets with some 2,300 residents in the commune under lockdown.

Today, a food vendor in Alley 287 of Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street in HCMC’s District 3 also tested positive for Covid-19.

According to the HCMC Center for Disease Control, the 58-year-old woman visited the Medic Medical Center in District 10 for chest radiography on May 19. The medical center found abnormalities in her lungs and transferred her to the nearby Pham Ngoc Thach Hospital, which specializes in lung diseases.

She had her sample taken for Covid-19 testing and the result came back positive. Her sample was also sent to the HCMC Hospital for Tropical Diseases for retesting this morning and the result was also positive.

The local authorities have traced 15 people in close contact with her and sent them to centralized quarantine centers. Meanwhile, those visiting the houses at 287/5 and 289 on Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street from May 6 were asked to contact healthcare agencies to undergo Covid-19 tests.

Alley 287 has been locked down. In addition, the District 10 government has asked the Medic Medical Center to stop receiving new patients.

Doctor Phan Thanh Hai, director of the center, said the center stopped admitting new patients from 7 a.m. today. He affirmed that the new Covid-19 patient was not linked to other patients in the city, but a patient in Thua Thien Hue Province.
