HCMC – A four-meter section of the Bac Khe hydropower dam in Tan Tien Commune, Lang Son Province, collapsed today, October 7, due to incessant rain that caused floodwater to flow fast into the reservoir.

According to grassroots authorities, the incident occurred at around 1 p.m., when the four-meter section of the dam gave way after days of continuous downpours.

Earlier the same day, local authorities detected cracks in the dam structure, raising concerns about a possible breach. In response, local authorities promptly warned residents and evacuated all households from four downstream villages with some 200 to 300 families to safe areas.

Lang Son Province’s People’s Committee has dispatched a working group led by Vice Chairman Doan Thanh Son and the provincial agriculture and environment director to the site to oversee the response and recovery operations.

Provincial authorities said emergency teams are focusing on reinforcing the breached section. Once the water level recedes, repairs will begin immediately to restore the dam using appropriate safety measures.

The Bac Khe hydropower reservoir has a capacity of about four million cubic meters of water, according to the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment.
