Boehringer Ingelheim, a leading research-driven biopharmaceutical company, has received a Certificate of Merit for its outstanding corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives at the Saigon Times CSR 2024 Merit Ceremony. This certification underscores the company’s pioneering efforts in sustainable development and its meaningful contributions to social activities.
For over 25 years in Vietnam, Boehringer Ingelheim has consistently implemented impactful community projects, reinforcing its commitment to “Sustainable Development for Generations.” The company places a strong emphasis on supporting vulnerable communities and advancing animal health care. These efforts are integral to its strategy of creating positive societal impacts while driving sustainable business growth.
Continuing the journey to transform lives for generations
Through its commitment to “Sustainable Development for Generations,” Boehringer Ingelheim focuses on three pillars: “More Health,” “More Potential,” and “More Green.” This is dedicated to improving the quality of life for people and animals, communities, and the planet. Specifically, in the area of health care, the company has established a long-term partnership with the Ministry of Health to optimize patient care. This collaboration aims to enhance the diagnosis, treatment, and management of cardiovascular, renal, metabolic, respiratory, and other non-communicable diseases, reducing treatment burdens and improving patients’ quality of life.
Additionally, the Angels initiative, launched by Boehringer Ingelheim Vietnam in 2017, exemplifies the company’s efforts to improve stroke treatment quality and increase patient access to care. The company has collaborated with the World Stroke Organization (WSO), the Vietnam Stroke Association (VNSA), and the HCMC Stroke Association (HSA) to improve the health of stroke patients in Vietnam. As of Q1 2024, the program has established 124 stroke-ready hospitals nationwide, benefiting over 56,400 stroke patients.
In the field of animal health, Boehringer Ingelheim Vietnam has closely collaborated with veterinarians, pet owners, health authorities, and local governments to implement the “STOP Rabies” program. In April, Boehringer Ingelheim partnered with Long An Province’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and veterinary students from the University of Agriculture and Forestry in HCMC (Nong Lam University) to provide free rabies vaccinations for 6,500 dogs and cats, while raising awareness about rabies prevention. Since the program’s inception in 2021, a total of 26,500 dogs and cats have been vaccinated.
Through local vaccination campaigns, Boehringer Ingelheim aims to eradicate rabies at its source, prevent the spread of the virus, and provide a cost-effective solution for rabies prevention. This program has successfully raised community awareness, inspiring localities to combat and eliminate rabies. It also contributes to the Vietnamese Government’s goal of vaccinating 70% of dogs and cats from 2022 to 2025, thereby safeguarding both animal and human health, which are closely interconnected.
Continuing to create positive impacts on communities and the planet
To support vulnerable communities, Boehringer Ingelheim also organizes annual community activities in Hanoi and HCMC. These include volunteer visits to facilities caring for the elderly, children, and rescued animals.
Recently, Boehringer Ingelheim Vietnam quickly implemented practical activities such as internal donations, providing clothing, food, essential supplies, and protective gear to communities affected by Typhoon Yagi in the northern region, helping them recover and rebuild their lives after the disaster.
The company also focuses on environmental protection initiatives, such as waste collection, cleanup, and increasing green spaces in localities, as well as eliminating plastic waste in offices to achieve carbon neutrality. Meanwhile, the Green IT @ ASKAN initiative, launched in 2022, integrates responsible e-waste management solutions donating 64 digital devices worth over US$10,000 to Maison Chance, a non-governmental organization that provides housing, health care, educational opportunities, and vocational training for the underprivileged. These devices, given to children in need, people with disabilities, and staff living in remote areas, are repurposed for a second life, contributing to a sustainable impact ecosystem.
