HCMC – Can Tho City has teamed up with the state-run Vietnam National Industry – Energy Group (Petrovietnam) to prepare a project to develop an eco-industrial energy center in the Mekong Delta city, the municipal government said.

The project, assigned by the central government, will include petrochemical processing, logistics services, port facilities, research and training centers, and an eco-urban area, according to the People’s Committee of Can Tho.

Once operational, the center is expected to support the Mekong Delta’s economic growth, providing electricity, clean energy applications, high-tech services, and green chemicals aligned with the region’s agriculture, trade and processing industries.

Petrovietnam is finalising the proposal to submit to the city government before Sept. 15. Two possible sites are the Song Hau thermal power complex and the existing O Mon thermal power center, both of which are consistent with Can Tho’s energy plans.
