In light of the severe damage caused by typhoon Yagi in northern Vietnam, despite also experiencing significant losses from the storm, CJ Group has decided to launch a support program for those in need. This initiative reflects the company’s commitment to responsibility and solidarity, standing alongside the community during this challenging time.
As of the end of September 2024, CJ Group has got reports on significant damages from its member companies. CJ Vina Agri has been the hardest hit by the typhoon, with estimated losses almost VND11 billion, including VND3 billion in raw materials and fixed assets, along with nearly VND8 billion from livestock. TOUS les JOURS has incurred losses of nearly VND500 million due to power outages in Haiphong and damage from ceiling leaks in stores in Hanoi, resulting in the disposal of many perishable goods. CJ Gemadept is currently in talks with insurers regarding the inventory damage caused by flooding at its centers and warehouses, estimated at around 1,520 pallets. These losses may impact the supply chain and business operations in the near future. CGV needs to carry out repairs at its theaters in Haiphong and several locations in the northern region.
In addition to focusing on recovering from the damages caused by the recent typhoon, CJ Group Vietnam and its member companies have decided to allocate more than VND1.7 billion for relief efforts in northern Vietnam. This includes a cash donation of VND1.262 billion sent through the Ho Chi Minh City Fatherland Front Committee, as well as approximately VND500 million in kind (such as animal feed) that has been delivered to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. All donations are accompanied by a receipt to ensure transparency in the supporting process.
Mr. Chang Bok Sang, Chairman of CJ Group Vietnam, said: “In difficult times, timely support is not only an obligation but also an act of compassion. We are committed to standing alongside the government and the community to mitigate the effects of natural disasters and assist those in urgent need. The situation is severe, but amidst the pain and loss, we can still find hearts of kindness and a spirit of sharing.”
