HCMC – The consuls general of France, Germany, the UK, the U.S. and Canada in HCMC gathered on March 4 to meet winners of the “Consul General for a Day” competition, emphasizing the empowerment of women in society.
Speaking at the event in HCMC, Josefine Wallat, German consul general in HCMC, emphasized the importance of the competition in encouraging women to take on traditionally male-associated careers. Moreover, the meeting, with the presence of all five female consuls general, marked a meaningful preparation for the upcoming International Women’s Day.
Nguyen Thi Truc Ly, winner from the British Consulate General in HCMC, who aspires to become a chemical engineer, said that the contest motivated her to speak up and pursue her dreams regardless of opinions questioning the suitability of women in the field.
The “Consul General for a Day” contest kicked off in late February as part of the preparation for International Women’s Day on March 8, inviting Vietnamese girls and women aged 13 to 22 to participate. Each consulate selected a laureate who best met their selection criteria including answers to questions and video presentation.
The five winners include Nguyen Thi Truc Ly (British Consul General), Le Nguyen Thuy Vy (French Consul General), Nguyen Thi Thien Nga (British Consul General) and Nguyen Thi Bao Ngoc (U.S. Consul General), and Luu Thu Hang (German Consul General).
