HCMC – The Covid-19 vaccine doses allocated to the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau will suffice for 70% of the province’s population eligible for free vaccination, secretary of the provincial Party Committee Pham Viet Thanh said in a letter to local residents.
He hailed the efforts of frontline workers and local residents in the fight against the pandemic in the context that the province has practiced the stay-at-home mandate for 10 days, the local media reported.
He added that the province has realized that vaccines are the most important solution to tackle the pandemic, to help the province return to a new normal state and develop its socioeconomy. Therefore, the province has striven to access Covid-19 vaccines through many channels.
This month, all residents in Con Dao District meeting the requirements have been vaccinated.
Ba Ria-Vung Tau has a population of 1.2 million people. When the province recorded its first Covid-19 case on June 28, it was given over 31,000 Covid-19 vaccine doses.
Recently, Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Truong Son said the ministry would allocate 115,000 more doses to the province this month and more than one million doses from August to December.
To prepare well for the upcoming vaccination campaign, the provincial Party Committee’s Standing Board asked agencies and districts to draw up plans and make a list of those eligible for the vaccination. The province will prioritize the vaccines for people aged over 65 and suffering from chronic diseases.
As soon as they receive the vaccines, the competent agencies must vaccinate the local residents in a safe, transparent and quick manner. Technologies should be applied in the fight against the pandemic and the vaccination.
