Dinh Tien Dung stripped of Politburo, Party Central Committee membership

HCMC – The Party Central Committee (PCC) has stripped Dinh Tien Dung of his membership of the Politburo and the current 13th PCC, the PCC Office announced today, June 21.

The 13th Party Central Committee held a meeting today to review personnel matters, including Dinh Tien Dung’s request to resign from his leadership positions.

Dung, a senior Party and State official, held key leadership positions at both central and local levels, entrusted by the PCC and the Politburo. Throughout his career, he has made contributions to the achievements of the organizations and localities where he served.

However, according to the report of the Central Inspection Commission, during his term of office as secretary of the Party Committee, Minister of Finance in the 2016-2021 term, he violated the don’ts for Party members and the rules on responsibility of Party members to act as role models.

He showed a lack of responsibility in leadership and guidance, resulting in numerous violations and shortcomings within the Party Committee, the Ministry of Finance, and several organizations and individuals. These actions led to serious consequences and negative public perception.

Before the Politburo and the Secretariat announced their decisions, Dung had submitted a letter seeking resignation from all his posts and retirement.

Based on current regulations of the Party and the State, and considering Dung’s request, the PCC agreed to let him quit as a member of the Politburo and a member of the 13th PCC.

On June 19, Dung was allowed to pull out of the Executive Committee and the Standing Committee of the Hanoi City Party Committee, and resign as secretary of the Hanoi City Party Committee in the 2020-2025 term.
