HCMC – Nguyen Xuan Men, former director of the Quang Ngai Provincial Department of Health, has been reprimanded for his shortcomings in procuring Covid test kits.
The provincial Party Committee issued the reprimand at a conference held yesterday, October 24.
Men is currently the permanent vice chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in the central province of Quang Ngai.
When he was director of the provincial Health Department in the 2019-2022 tenure, he was found slow in giving directions and mapping out plans to purchase medical equipment to serve the Covid fight. He also failed to report obstacles linked to medical equipment procurement to the authorities for solutions.
Men was also reprimanded for his lack of responsibility as he let the head of the Quang Ngai Center for Disease Control (CDC) borrow Covid test kits from Viet A Company, resulting in the Quang Ngai CDC later purchasing test kits from this company, not in line with the prevailing regulations.
Besides, Men had to take partial responsibility for wrongdoing in the procurement of medical equipment when he was deputy director of the Health Department in 2017.
The provincial Party Committee at the conference also reprimanded Nguyen Tan Duc, former director of the provincial Health Department in the 2014-2018 tenure, for his shortcomings in procuring medical equipment and drugs.
Duc holds the post of vice chairman of the provincial People’s Council.
