HCMC – The Ministry of Construction has tasked the Railway Project Management Board with conducting a feasibility study for the Lao Cai-Hanoi-Haiphong railway project, reported the local media.
The 390.9-kilometer railway will connect a border station in Lao Cai with Lach Huyen Station in Haiphong City, passing through nine provinces and key northern industrial hubs, including Hanoi. Additionally, 27.9 kilometers of branch lines are planned to enhance connectivity.
The National Assembly has approved an estimated investment of over VND203.2 trillion, sourced from the state budget and other legal funding channels.
Authorities aim to complete the necessary procedures to begin construction by the end of the year, following the prime minister’s directive. The railway will accommodate both passenger and freight transport, with design speeds reaching up to 160 km/h on the main sections, 120 km/h in Hanoi, and 80 km/h in other areas.
