HCMC – The Management Authority for Urban Railways (MAUR) of HCMC, the investor of the city’s first metro line project, has started the installation of the final underground track of the project.

The final track is 660 meters long, stretching from the Opera House to the Ben Thanh Station.

The city’s first metro line project, which connects Ben Thanh Market in District 1 to Suoi Tien Park in Thu Duc City, is 88% complete, with the final three packages being completed 93.5% to 98.6%.

The project was set for completion in late 2021, but the Covid pandemic hindered the mobilization of domestic and foreign workers, leading to installation delays. The progress of some packages has been delayed by five to eight months, according to MAUR.

Due to the Covid impact, the project will only be completed in late 2023, according to consulting units.

The 19.7-kilometer metro line project in HCMC requires a total cost of VND43.7 trillion, including three underground stations and 11 elevated ones.
