Former Haiphong police chief sentenced to 10 years in prison

HCMC – Do Huu Ca, former police chief of Haiphong City, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison as he was found guilty of fraudulent appropriation of assets.

Today, April 12, the Quang Ninh People’s Court handed down sentences to Ca and 12 other defendants after three days of trial.

Truong Xuan Duoc, who asked his wife to hand over VND35 billion to Ca seeking help to deter a police probe into the illegal trading of invoices and tax documents, was sentenced to 24 months in jail for the illicit trading of invoices and seven years in jail for giving bribes, resulting in a combined sentence totaling nine years of imprisonment.

Duoc’s wife received a sentence of four years and six months in prison for the same charges. Duoc and his wife were forced to pay an amount of VND41 billion to the State budget as a remedy.

Along with the above individuals, Nguyen Dinh Duong, former chief of the tax department of Cat Hai District, Haiphong City and his subordinate received prison terms of six years and six months, and four years and six months for taking bribes, respectively.

The remaining two defendants, Dang Khac Thanh and Ha Thi Bich Nhan, were sentenced to 18 months and 15 months of imprisonment for the illicit trading of invoices and tax documents.
