HCMC – FPT IS and Mastercard have partnered to introduce a contactless payment system for the upcoming Metro Line No. 1 from Ben Thanh Market to Suoi Tien Theme Park in HCMC.
The EMV OpenLoop system, which integrates with the Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien urban railway’s ticketing system, is expected to streamline the boarding process and reduce wait time for passengers.
The first metro line of the city is expected to begin commercial service by the end of this year.
The EMV system is based on global payment standards set by Europay, Mastercard and Visa. Passengers can use their EMV-compliant bank cards, smartphones, and national ID cards to pay for fares.
The system offers users the ability to view their travel history and monitor commuting habits.
FPT IS and Mastercard aim to promote cashless payments in HCMC’s public transportation system, with the goal of expanding the initiative nationwide.
