Generali Vietnam: Spreading the spirit of care through sustainable actions

By Hoang Khang

Must read

As part of its long-term strategy as a Lifetime Partner, Generali Vietnam continues its journey to become a true lifetime companion for millions of Vietnamese families by spreading the spirit of care through inspiring and sustainable actions. In Vietnam, where communities are increasingly vulnerable to climate change and social challenges, Generali is proving that an insurance company can do far more than offer protection. The Italian life insurer has made sustainability a cornerstone of its business operations, not as a side project, but as an integral part of its identity.

In Vietnam, the Italian-invested life insurer aligns its strategy with the Government’s Net Zero 2050 goal, advancing environmental, social and governance (ESG) priorities through a mix of innovation, education and humanitarian action. Between 2025 and 2027, its focus revolves around three themes – climate change, demographic shifts, and workforce transformation – embodied in four roles: responsible insurer, investor, employer, and corporate citizen.

Early childhood development

Generali Vietnam aims to support children aged 0–6, empowering the parents and caregivers with practical knowledge and skills. These efforts are implemented through a series of long-term, strategic, and nationwide projects, delivered by The Human Safety Net (THSN) – the non-profit organization founded by Generali Group to carry out its community mission worldwide.

Generali Vietnam aims to support vulnerable families and children aged 0–6. Besides addressing urgent needs through direct support, public infrastructure, and emergency interventions, through The Human Safety Net (THSN) – the non-profit organization founded by Generali Group, we drive long-term transformation by educating and empowering parents, caregivers, and teachers to nurture, protect, and stimulate early childhood development.

  1. “Integrated Early Childhood Development (IECD) for Holistic Parenting” project (2021 – 2026)

THSN has sponsored over 1 million euros in the project “Integrated Early Childhood Development (IECD) for Holistic Parenting”, implemented by UNICEF Vietnam, and in partnership with the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA), and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI).

The project aims to empower parents and caregivers of children with essential knowledge and responsive caregiving skills, ensuring that every child grows up healthy, safe, and happy. It has been piloted in 35 communes across Vietnam, as well as several factories around Ho Chi Minh City, focusing on nutrition, health, early education, and emotional well-being for the children.

  1. EM-THRIVE Project (2025 – 2027)

EM-THRIVE Project is an ambitious project expanding the “Hanh Trinh Dau Doi” (Early Life Journey) parenting model. Supported by 1.5 million euros from THSN through Monash University in Australia, the program helps integrate early childhood education into Vietnam’s national vaccination network.

Implemented with the Ministry of Health and the Research and Training Center for Community Development (RTCCD), EM-THRIVE provides free training on nutrition, communication, and emotional support for parents. The project runs in five provinces: Ha Giang, Soc Trang, Quang Ninh, Binh Thuan, and Can Tho, with courses available in Vietnamese and six ethnic languages, ensuring that even the most remote families can access knowledge and guidance.

By focusing on the earliest stages of life, we aim to break the cycle of disadvantage and empower parents as the first teachers of their children.

3. Engagement – People helping people

Beyond funding, through The Human Safety Net, we build a movement of “People Helping People”, engaging key stakeholders (staff, financial advisors, customers, and partners) to volunteer their time, talent, and compassion through various fundraising and volunteering activities.

One of the flagship fundraising initiatives, the Global Challenge, is THSN’s largest annual social movement.  In 2025, from North to South Vietnam, we run diverse fundraising and volunteering activities in partnership with the National Fund for Vietnamese Children (NFVC) to promote the importance of play in children’s physical and emotional development at an early stage.

Various fundraising activities included Cycling and running events in Hanoi, Hue, Quang Tri, and Ho Chi Minh City; a three-stage Pickleball Charity Tournament; and many volunteer-led initiatives such as “Challenge Day” and “Happiness Booths”, which encouraged team spirit, community engagement, and call for donations. Over 700 volunteers nationwide took part, helping raise VND535 million to support the children and community wellbeing.

Throughout the year, Generali employees and financial advisors also organize various donation activities, from book and toy collections to giving to vulnerable children.

In addition to educational activities, we also provide a safe environment for children to grow by building playgrounds made from sustainable materials at schools and public spaces.

Beyond the numbers, all of these activities come back to the main goals of supporting “Early Childhood Development” of Generali Vietnam & THSN.

Emergency responses – Generali Vietnam pursues the mission of becoming a “Lifetime Partner”

In line with the “Lifetime Partner” and Here. Now strategy, which reflects the company’s commitment to being present for the customers in every moment that matters, Generali Vietnam has donated a total of nearly VND3.5 billion in 2025 to support children and families affected by crises across the country.

Generali Vietnam’s support for children in emergencies extends further through UNICEF’s project “Child Protection in Emergencies,” which strengthens local capacities through targeted training programs in Cao Bang, Lao Cai and Dien Bien. These include case management for at-risk children and mental health and psychosocial support for those affected by natural disasters.

When Typhoon Yagi struck northern Vietnam last year, Generali Vietnam quickly moved to help. The company donated nearly VND900 million to rebuild lives in Lao Cai Province, including VND580 million to the local Fatherland Front for reconstruction efforts. Fifty households in Tong Sanh Commune received financial aid and supplies, while 20 scholarships worth VND100 million were provided to students in hardship.

Generali employees also raised VND200 million internally to deliver essential goods to affected families in Quang Ninh, Haiphong, Bac Giang and other provinces. The company’s response reflected a simple principle: empathy in action.

Integrating sustainable and environmental initiatives into business and corporate activities

Generali Vietnam actively integrates sustainability into every aspect of its operations, executing and promoting environmentally friendly practices across its business and corporate activities.

Earlier this year, the company introduced an eco-friendly insurance policy kit, 90% thinner and 85% lighter than the old version, made entirely from recyclable paper.

Each policy issued also plants one aloe vera seedling under the “One Policy, One Tree” project, managed by TreeBank and the Institute for Research on Development Communication. So far, 50,000 seedlings have been distributed to the Raglai ethnic community in Ninh Thuan, providing both environmental and economic benefits.

For Generali, this initiative embodies the idea that small, consistent acts – even as modest as reducing paper – can make a meaningful difference.

Generali’s sense of sustainability starts from within. Through its internal program “SOHI & The Sustainability Mission,” the company encourages employees to adopt greener, more mindful lifestyles.

Staff take part in online sessions such as “Saving Electricity” and “You & Sustainability” and join challenges that reward practical actions: bringing reusable bottles, cutting single-use plastics, walking or carpooling to work, and turning off idle lights.

The “Recycle & Reuse” drive further promotes sustainable habits, from replacing plastic bags with fabric ones to collecting used batteries at offices. These efforts might seem small, but together they nurture a company culture where sustainability is lived every day, not just declared.

The “Together We Grow Forests – For a Sustainable Future 2025” initiative at the Binh Chau – Phuoc Buu Nature Preserve helps enhance forest coverage and support environmental conservation efforts, where employees and agents donated 1,000 saplings and personally planted nearly 300 trees.

These initiatives, from reforestation to behavior change, form the foundation of Generali’s long-term sustainability vision.

Recognition and impact

From disaster relief to reforestation, from volunteerism to family health, Generali Vietnam’s sustainability work demonstrates a simple yet powerful truth – that care, when consistently practiced, can transform communities. As Generali continues its journey beyond, its mission remains clear: to protect not only lives and livelihoods, but also the environment and the shared future of generations to come.

A total of more than 226,000 children, parents, caregivers, preschool teachers, and local health and community staff have been equipped with parenting knowledge and essential skills for holistic early childhood development (in partnership with UNICEF, RTCCD, NFVC, and others). Additionally, over 1,000 children have participated in various community activities.

Generali’s steady commitment to the community has not gone unnoticed. The company was proudly honored with the Certificate of Merit from the Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs for organizations and individuals with outstanding achievements in child protection and care in 2024. The company also received the “Saigon Times CSR” certification for five consecutive years.

In 2025, Generali Vietnam was named among the Top 10 Most Reputable Life Insurers by Vietnam Report, International Life Insurer of the Year at the Insurance Asia Awards, and Leader in Innovation and Sustainability at the Golden Dragon Awards. Also, the company’s Net Promoter Score (NPS) – a customer satisfaction metric – has consistently improved through the years.

These accolades, however, are secondary to what Generali values most: trust. By combining business growth with compassion, the company has shown that long-term success depends not only on financial performance but also on how deeply it cares for the people it serves. With every initiative, Generali Vietnam reaffirms that sustainable growth is built not just on profit, but on purpose.
