HCMC – The People’s Committee of Gia Lai Province has approved the investment policy for the first phase of the Hon Trau Wind Power Plant, a project with a planned capacity of 750 MW.

According to the provincial Department of Finance, the project has total registered capital of over VND48.372 trillion. Only VND33 billion is earmarked for compensation, support, and resettlement for residents affected by the project, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

The plant is expected to supply about 2.8 billion kWh of electricity per year. Power from the facility will be transmitted to the national grid through a double-circuit 220kV line connecting the Hon Trau 1 220kV substation (HT 1A area) to the Phu My 220kV substation. Another new double-circuit 220kV line will run from the Hon Trau 1 220kV substation (HT 1B area) to the Nhon Hoi 220kV substation.

The project will span nearshore and onshore areas across eight communes: Phu My Dong, Phu My Tay, Phu My Bac, Binh Duong, Ngo May, Cat Tien, Tuy Phuoc Dong, and Quy Nhon Dong. Wind turbines will be installed offshore in the waters of Phu My Bac and Phu My Dong (HT 1A) and in the waters of Cat Tien (HT 1B). The project will cover nearly 50 hectares, including 32 hectares of sea surface and 17.6 hectares on land.

Authorities said the project will be tendered to select an investor in line with regulations. Construction and commissioning are slated for completion no later than the fourth quarter of 2029.
