HCMC – Milk consumption is targeted to reach 100 liters per person per year by 2045 under a dairy industry development plan strategy on February 23, the Ministry of Industry and Trade said on its website.

The strategy, approved under Decision No. 309/QD-TTg signed by Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son, outlines growth targets for the dairy sector through 2030 and toward 2045.

By 2030, average milk and dairy consumption is projected to be 40 liters per person per year. Processed liquid milk output is expected to reach 4.2 billion liters annually. Domestic fresh milk production is targeted at 2.6 billion liters, meeting 60–65% of processing demand.

Milk powder production is forecast to grow by 7–8% per year to 245,000 tons by 2030. Overall industry growth is projected at 12–14% annually during this period.

By 2045, processed liquid milk output is projected to reach 9.7 billion liters per year. Domestic fresh milk production is expected to rise to eight billion liters, covering 80–85% of processing demand.

Milk powder output is targeted at 415,000 tons, with annual growth of 3–4%. The industry’s overall growth rate is projected at 5–6% per year.

The strategy aims to develop a complete dairy value chain, from expanding dairy herds and increasing raw milk supply to producing higher-value processed products, while meeting domestic demand and strengthening participation in regional and global dairy supply chains.
