HCMC – The Halong Canned Food Factory in Haiphong City will suspend operations for 14 days starting tomorrow, following reports that 130 tons of diseased pork were found at the Vietnamese company’s facility in the city.

Halong Canned Food Joint Stock Company (Halong Canfoco) made the announcement on the afternoon of January 11, more than three days after authorities disclosed the case involving 130 tons of diseased pork stored at the company’s Haiphong plant.

According to Halong Canfoco, the company will report to its board of directors for consideration and a decision on whether to extend or adjust the suspension period based on actual developments.

The board of directors has agreed to assign Cao Nhat Huy, deputy director of production, to run the Halong Canned Food Factory in Haiphong, and draw up and implement a labor arrangement plan during the production shutdown.

On January 10, Haiphong City police arrested Truong Sy Toan, chief executive officer of Halong Canfoco, as part of an investigation into the alleged collection and storage of a large quantity of diseased pork at the company’s cold storage facilities. In addition, three other employees were detained after being identified as having roles in inspecting and assessing the quality of pork before it was put into storage and used in the production process.

Halong Canfoco was set up in Haiphong in 1957 and then known as the Halong Canned Fish Factory. The company made its debut on the stock market in 2021 under the stock code CAN.

The Halong Canned Food Factory in Haiphong covers more than 57,100 square meters, and has an annual production capacity of 4,440 tons of food and seafood products, including 1,179 tons of canned meat, 71 tons of canned fish, 109 tons of spring rolls, 2,202 tons of sausages, 495 tons of canned lotus seeds, and 384 tons of canned vegetables and fruits.

In addition to its main plant in Haiphong, the company has two other production facilities, with one in Danang City and the other in Dong Thap Province.

Halong Canfoco recorded peak revenue of more than VND864 billion in 2021, but pre-tax profit reached only VND38 billion due to high costs of goods sold and other expenses. Since then, the company’s revenue has declined steadily. In 2024, it posted revenue of VND682 billion and profit of VND3 billion.

In the first nine months of 2025, the company made VND486 billion in revenue, down nearly 10% year-on-year. However, its pre-tax profit exceeded VND15 billion, reversing a loss of more than VND5 billion recorded in the same period last year.
