HCMC – Hanoi’s main bus stations will add more than 2,400 extra bus trips to meet sharply rising travel demand during the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday in 2026, according to the Hanoi Transport Station Joint Stock Company.
Tet will last nine days, from February 14 to 22, 2026. The travel peak is expected from February 6 through February 22, when passenger volumes are forecast to rise by 300% to 400% compared with normal days, the company said.
At Giap Bat Bus Station, daily passenger numbers are expected to peak at around 16,000, up 400% from usual levels. Daily departures are projected at 850–900 trips, mainly serving routes to Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Ninh Binh, and Thanh Hoa.
At Gia Lam Bus Station, passenger traffic is forecast to reach about 4,000 people per day, up roughly 350%, with around 400 trips daily. Demand is expected to concentrate on routes to Haiphong, Quang Ninh, and Bac Giang.
Meanwhile, My Dinh Bus Station is expected to handle about 17,000 passengers per day during peak days, an increase of more than 350%. Daily departures are estimated at over 950 trips, mainly on routes to Hoa Binh, Ha Giang, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Dien Bien, Son La, Lai Chau, Quang Ninh, and Cao Bang.
To cope with the surge, the company plans to add approximately 2,450 bus trips, including 1,110 trips at Giap Bat, 320 at Gia Lam, and 1,020 at My Dinh. The additional services will be allocated flexibly by day and route based on actual passenger flows.
