HCMC – Chu Ngoc Anh, Hanoi’s Deputy Party Secretary and Minister of Science and Technology, has been elected as chairman of Hanoi City, replacing Nguyen Duc Chung, who has been dismissed from the post.
At an extraordinary meeting held by the Hanoi People’s Council today, September 25, 95 of the total 96 deputies present at the municipal council voted for Chu Ngoc Anh as chairman for the 2016-2021 tenure, the local media reported.
Chu Ngoc Anh, born in Ba Vi District of Hanoi City, has a PhD degree and has held various important positions in the Party and the Government, such as member of the Party’s 12th Central Committee. He was elected as Deputy Minister of Science and Technology in September 2015 before becoming minister in April 2016.
On September 18, he was appointed as deputy secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee.
The 55-year-old also worked at the Hanoi University of Science and Technology, the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology and the State Agency for Technology Innovation.
