HCMC – The HCMC Department of Health has written to the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology asking for over six million more Covid vaccine doses.

To achieve full immunization coverage among over 7.2 million people in HCMC as scheduled, the city needs that many vaccine doses from now until October 31, including some 472,000 doses for the first shot and the rest for people who need to receive a second shot.

Among the doses set to be administered as second shots, the city needs over 4.9 million doses of the AstraZeneca or Pfizer vaccine and 624,000 doses of the Vero Cell vaccine.

The municipal department expects the institute to distribute the vaccine promptly so that the city’s vaccination process can run on schedule, the local media reported.

As of September 19, the city had administered over 8.7 million Covid vaccine doses, with more than 6.7 million doses administered as first shots and over two million doses as second shots, according to the municipal department.

Specially, some 5.2 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine were given to adults in HCMC, while over 607,470 Pfizer doses, some 636,000 Moderna doses and nearly 2.4 million Vero Cell doses were administered in the city.

The stock of vaccine in HCMC has dwindled to 774,272 doses, including 108,894 AstraZeneca doses, 125,800 Pfizer doses and some 540,000 Vero Cell doses.
