HCMC – HCMC has set an ambitious target for high-tech industries to account for 40% of its gross regional domestic product (GRDP) by 2030, said Phan Van Mai, chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee.

Speaking at the Friendship Dialogue 2024, themed “Industrial Transformation: Experiences and Priorities in Development Cooperation,” today, September 24, Mai emphasized the importance of shifting from traditional industries to high-tech and high value-added sectors.

“Industrial transformation is not only an option but a pressing necessity for HCMC and cities worldwide,” he stated.

Currently, high-tech industries account for around 23% of HCMC’s GRDP. By increasing this figure to 40% by 2030, the city aims to not only maintain its economic standing nationally and regionally.

Given the global trend toward sustainable production, HCMC has adopted a dual strategy that combines green transformation with digitalization, enabling the city to achieve sustainable and inclusive economic growth.

The city is investing heavily in high-tech industries, focusing on automation, smart factories, and advanced manufacturing technologies to enhance its value chain.

Mai also highlighted the importance of collaboration between government, businesses, and citizens in areas such as technology transfer, green infrastructure investment, and high-tech development partnerships to drive this transformation.

As part of the HCMC Friendship Dialogue 2024, leaders from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the HCMC Party Committee, and the HCMC People’s Committee held bilateral meetings with representatives of international organizations and localities.
